Asiedu Nketiah Embarks on ‘Thank You’ Tour to Celebrate NDC’s Parliamentary Gains

 September 18, 2025

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has outlined the purpose of his three-day “Thank You Tour,” which spans 16 constituencies in Ghana’s Eastern Region from September 17 to 19.

Speaking to party executives and grassroots members in the Akuapem North Constituency, Asiedu Nketiah explained that the tour is meant to appreciate the dedication of party cadres and local organisers whose efforts were instrumental in securing a strong parliamentary majority during the 2024 elections.

He recounted how the NDC strategically divided its campaign into three teams:

  • President John Dramani Mahama focused on the presidential race,

  • Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang supported the national ticket, and

  • Asiedu Nketiah himself spearheaded the parliamentary campaign.

“We realised that the elections had two main fronts the presidential and parliamentary,” he said. “It was important for President Mahama to focus entirely on the presidential contest, while my team worked to secure parliamentary seats.”

According to Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC observed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shifted its strategy mid-campaign, channeling resources to parliamentary candidates as confidence waned in its presidential flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. In response, his team concentrated on traditionally NPP strongholds, mobilising grassroots structures to win seats previously considered unwinnable.

“This tour is not about the presidential campaign,” he stressed. “It is about appreciating the efforts of our people who worked tirelessly to win seats in Parliament and strengthen the party’s position.”

While some observers speculate that the tour could set the stage for a future presidential bid, Asiedu Nketiah maintained that the initiative is purely an expression of gratitude to NDC supporters who helped secure a decisive parliamentary advantage.
