Gbinnyiri Mediation Committee Begins Work to Foster Peace
The newly inaugurated Gbinnyiri Mediation Committee has commenced work to promote peace and reconciliation in Gbinnyiri and surrounding conflict-affected communities.
The committee, inaugurated by Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka on September 8, is tasked with engaging chiefs, elders, community leaders, civil society organisations, religious groups, women, and youth associations to encourage dialogue and healing. Its focus is to rebuild trust and enable the safe return of refugees from Ghana’s borders with Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, as well as internally displaced persons.
Committee Chair Hon. Emmanuel Habuka Bombande stressed that the body is not mediating land disputes but rather facilitating inclusive dialogue to ensure sustainable peace. The committee urged Ghanaians to avoid inflammatory comments and desist from sharing content on social media that could escalate tensions. It also appealed to media houses, bloggers, and journalists to uphold professionalism in their coverage.
The committee members include Hon. Emmanuel Habuka Bombande (Chaiman), Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, Rev. Fr. Lazarus Annyerreh, Dr. Festus Aubyn, Sylvia Honnam Noagbesenu Esq., Prof. Ramatu Alhassan, and Dr. George Amoh, who serves as Secretary.
Gratitude was extended to traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security operatives for their contributions to maintaining calm in the area.
