Violence Erupts at Odompo as AAK NDC Branch Elections Turn Bloody
July 4,2026
Violence reportedly marred the National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch elections at the Odompo Branch in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency, leaving one party official seriously injured.
According to eyewitnesses, individuals identified as National Security personnel arrived at the polling centre armed with knives and other sharp objects. Witnesses alleged that the group attacked party faithful and fired several gunshots, causing panic and forcing many people to flee the area.
During the incident, the Chairman of the Korado Branch, who was present at the Odompo polling station, sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. The injury, which has been verified, reportedly left one of his fingers nearly severed.
Some party members have alleged that the operation was carried out on the instructions of the District Chief Executive (DCE). However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and the DCE has not publicly responded to the claims.
The incident has heightened tensions within the constituency, with party members calling for an independent investigation into the violence and the circumstances surrounding the deployment of the alleged National Security personnel.
As of the time of publication, no official statement had been issued by the relevant security agencies regarding the incident.
