Government Clarifies President Mahama's GH¢150 Million Flood Mitigation Remarks Amid Viral Video

The Government has clarified that President John Dramani Mahama's widely circulated remarks about GH¢150 million were specifically related to funds released for post-flood mitigation efforts, dismissing claims circulating on social media that suggest otherwise.
The clarification follows the emergence of a viral video that has generated public debate and attracted varying interpretations of the President's comments.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, July 27, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the President's remarks had been deliberately taken out of context by some individuals for partisan purposes.
According to the Minister, President Mahama was discussing government interventions to address the impact of recent flooding and referred to the release of GH¢150 million to support post-flood mitigation works.
"The President clearly referred to the release of GH¢150 million for post-flood mitigation works. His remarks were made in the context of a discussion with the National Security Coordinator and should not be interpreted otherwise," Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained.
He urged the public to disregard misleading narratives surrounding the video and encouraged citizens to rely on official government communication for accurate information.
The clarification comes as government continues to implement emergency response and recovery measures following recent flooding incidents that affected several communities. Authorities have indicated that the allocated funds will support interventions aimed at improving drainage infrastructure, reducing flood risks, and strengthening disaster preparedness.
