Police Bust Ambulance Carrying Suspected Indian Hemp in Accra
The Accra Regional Police Command has intercepted a private ambulance, registration number GX 277-20, loaded with substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to a police statement sighted by VistaNews.com, the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Kwame Mananyi Tuanda, was found standing beside the ambulance and claimed ownership of both the vehicle and its contents.
A search of the ambulance uncovered 700 sacks and 473 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Preliminary investigations revealed the consignment was transported from Kpando in the Volta Region. The suspect reportedly admitted to engaging in the illicit trade since last year.
Police further discovered that the Hyundai vehicle had been converted into an ambulance to transport both cannabis and dead bodies, disguising its operations.
Tuanda has since been detained while investigations continue. The police command cautioned the public against the illegitimate use of ambulances for criminal activities, stressing that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
