15 Killed in Ford Transit–Ambulance Collision on Kumasi–Sunyani Road

Fifteen people have been confirmed dead following a tragic head-on collision between a Ford Transit bus and an ambulance on the Kumasi–Sunyani highway.
The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Tikrom near Mankranso in the Ashanti Region. According to reports, the Ford Transit bus, bearing registration number GT K5676-19, was travelling from Kumasi to Drobo when it collided with an ambulance heading in the opposite direction.
The ambulance was reportedly transporting a pregnant woman from Drobo to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for emergency medical treatment at the time of the crash.
All 15 passengers aboard the Ford Transit bus died instantly. Authorities are yet to officially confirm the condition of the pregnant woman and other occupants in the ambulance.
The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Mankranso Hospital morgue for preservation and identification, as investigations commence into the circumstances leading to the collision.
In a related development, a pedestrian lost his life in a separate accident on Monday morning, March 2, 2026, at Kumasi South Junction in New North Suntreso.
The victim was reportedly struck by a private Ford vehicle with registration number 2821-15 in the early hours of the day. The deceased, whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have been walking from the North Suntreso area when the incident occurred.
Sources indicate that the driver stopped after realising the victim had died, parked the vehicle, and voluntarily reported himself to the North Suntreso District Police Command.
The body remained at the scene pending conveyance to the morgue by police for preservation and further investigation. Law enforcement officials are expected to launch a full probe to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Both incidents have renewed concerns about road safety on major highways and within urban centres in the Ashanti Region.
