One Critically Injured, Others Feared Trapped After Building Collapse at Avenor

June 7,2026

A major rescue operation is underway after a building collapsed at Avenor in North Kaneshie on Sunday, June 7, leaving one person in critical condition and raising fears that others remain trapped beneath the rubble.

The incident occurred opposite the Ashfoam showroom and near Melcom Plus, where a structure reportedly serving as a residential facility and mosque gave way. Initial reports indicate that construction work on the building had not yet been completed.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), personnel from the Circle Fire Station and the Service’s National Headquarters were quickly deployed to the scene to begin search and rescue operations.

Speaking during a live update on the GNFS Facebook page, Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey confirmed that two people had been rescued from the collapsed structure and rushed to a medical facility for treatment. He noted that one of the victims is in a critical state.

Rescue officials believe that one or two more individuals could still be trapped under the debris, prompting an intensified search effort.

The GNFS Director of Operations is leading the rescue mission, while heavy-duty machinery has been mobilized to assist emergency teams in clearing the wreckage and reaching areas that remain inaccessible.

Emergency responders continue to work at the scene as efforts to locate and rescue any remaining victims remain ongoing.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as rescue operations progress.
