EC Deputy Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare Resigns Effective July 31

Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, has submitted his resignation from the Commission, effective July 31, 2026.
The development was disclosed by Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the Minister, Dr. Asare has formally communicated his decision to the appropriate authorities and is expected to officially leave office at the end of July.
Dr. Asare has served as one of the Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission since his appointment in 2018. During his tenure, he played a key role in the administration and management of several major electoral processes, including general elections, by-elections, and electoral reforms.
The reasons for his resignation have not yet been made public.
His departure comes at a critical time for the Electoral Commission as it continues preparations for upcoming electoral activities and reforms aimed at strengthening Ghana’s democratic governance.
The Electoral Commission has yet to issue an official statement on the resignation or announce arrangements for the appointment of a successor.

Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, a political science lecturer and governance expert, was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate Services. He has been instrumental in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of electoral management strategies within the Commission.
His resignation marks the end of nearly eight years of service at Ghana’s election management body.
