Interior Ministry Suspends Kantanka Security Services Licence Over Alleged Regulatory Breaches

June 23, 2026

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended, with immediate effect, the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following allegations of regulatory violations involving its personnel.

In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, the Ministry said the decision follows reports of the alleged use of unprescribed uniforms, as well as the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations pointed to possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.

The Ministry noted that the use of unauthorized uniforms, firearms, ammunition, and other security accoutrements by private security personnel constitutes a serious breach of regulations with significant implications for public safety and national security.

As a result, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to immediately cease all operations pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

The Ministry has also advised all institutions and organizations to refrain from conducting business with the company until investigations are completed and further directives are issued.

Additionally, the company has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all necessary information required to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety and maintain security while investigations continue.

The public has also been encouraged to report any unlawful activities involving private security organizations and their personnel to the nearest police station.

Furthermore, private security companies have been reminded to comply strictly with the Public Notice on uniform regulations issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026.
