Violence Escalates in AAK NDC Branch Elections Amid Allegations of Plot to Unseat Incumbent Chairman
July 4,2026
The ongoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch elections in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency have reportedly reached a critical stage, with tensions escalating following allegations of political interference and voter suppression.
Some party members have accused the Constituency Member of Parliament, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Daniel Mensah Wardy, of allegedly orchestrating efforts to unseat the incumbent Constituency Chairman.
In opinions expressed by some party faithful intercepted by vistanewsgh.com, the members alleged that a coordinated strategy is being implemented to weaken the chairman's support base by suppressing voting in branches considered to be his strongholds.
According to the claims, the alleged campaign is intended to pave the way for former two-term Constituency Chairman, Kojo Arkoh, who is reportedly preparing to contest the incumbent in the constituency elections. Some party members believe that allies of the MP and the DCE do not regard the current chairman as their preferred candidate and are therefore working to replace him.
Party members further alleged that signs of the strategy became evident in the latter part of 2025, when the DCE reportedly embarked on visits to several branches within the constituency. According to them, particular attention was given to branches in the Kwaman area, which they described as strongholds of the incumbent chairman.
However, some members claim those engagements did not produce the desired political outcome, prompting what they describe as a shift to a new strategy aimed at weakening support for the incumbent ahead of the elections.
The allegations come amid heightened tensions surrounding the constituency's branch elections, which have already been overshadowed by reports of violence and disputes over the party's membership register.
As of the time of publication, neither the Member of Parliament, the District Chief Executive, nor former Chairman Kojo Arkoh has publicly responded to the allegations.
The developments have prompted calls from some party members for the Central Regional Executive Committee of the NDC to intervene to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process while preserving unity within the constituency.
