BoG to Sell $1.15 Billion in FX Under Gold Purchase Programme

October 8,2025

The Bank of Ghana has announced it will begin foreign exchange intermediation under its Domestic Gold Purchase Programme this month, with plans to sell up to $1.15 billion in October.

The central bank said the sales will be conducted through twice-weekly, price-competitive auctions on a spot basis, open to all licensed banks.

The BoG emphasized that allocations will have no earmarking or special conditions, ensuring transparent access for all market participants.

"The overarching objective remains clear to deepen the interbank FX market, enhance price discovery, and smooth volatility," the Bank stated.

The central bank said monthly auction volumes may be adjusted based on market conditions but pledged full transparency in all FX market operations and outcomes in line with international best practices.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana's FX management framework and promote financial system stability.
