Germany Pushes for NATO–US Consensus on Iran Amid Rising Tensions

March 26,2026

Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has called for NATO allies to establish a unified stance with the United States on Iran amid rising tensions.

Speaking ahead of a scheduled meeting of G7 foreign ministers near Paris, Wadephul noted that both United Kingdom and France align with his position. The discussions are expected to include talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The development comes as former U.S. President Donald Trump continues to criticise NATO members for not taking a more active role in the ongoing conflict, while also maintaining that the United States can act independently.

Meanwhile, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has accused Russia of supporting Iran with intelligence and drone capabilities in the Middle East. She further linked the Russia-Ukraine war with the U.S.-Israel conflict involving Iran, arguing that increased pressure on Moscow could help de-escalate tensions in the region.
