Professor Nana Ama Speaks on Climate Threats at TWAS Conference in Brazil
October 2,2025
Professor Nana Ama, representing Ghana and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has addressed the 17th General Conference of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Brazil, where she highlighted the growing climate threats facing food systems in West Africa.
In her presentation, she shared data-driven projections on the suitability of maize and rice under climate stress and examined risks including drought, flooding, pest dynamics, sea-level rise, and compounding shocks.
She noted that the climate crisis is already disrupting agricultural stability, economic resilience, and human well-being, particularly in the Global South. According to her, with over 262 million people undernourished worldwide, 98 percent of them in developing countries scientific research must play a central role in shaping adaptive governance and innovation.
Professor Nana Ama reaffirmed her commitment to advancing climate-resilient pathways through research, policy engagement, and international collaboration.
The TWAS General Conference brought together scientists, policymakers, and innovators from around the world to discuss science-driven solutions to global challenges.
