The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat Task Force has raided Gangway, a settlement in Aboso reportedly serving as a hub for illegal mining and drug activities.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 11 parcels of Indian hemp and other suspected narcotics, with hundreds of illegal miners, traders, gamblers, and drug users surrendering to authorities.
Gangway has been on the radar of security agencies as a hotspot for illegal mining operations, commonly known as galamsey, and associated criminal activities in the Western Region.
The raid forms part of NAIMOS's intensified crackdown on illegal mining and related crimes across mining communities in Ghana.
Further details about arrests and the fate of those who surrendered are expected to be released by the task force.
