Mahama Orders NIB Probe into Alleged Sale of Overseas Scholarships
February 4,2026
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to investigate allegations of impropriety in the award of overseas scholarships.
The directive follows claims made during a discussion on Sompa FM, where Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, alleged that an individual paid money to secure a foreign scholarship.
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said the President considers the allegation serious and of significant public interest, especially in light of the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and fairness in access to educational opportunities.
In a letter dated February 3, 2026, and signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the NIB was instructed to immediately investigate the claim, establish the facts, identify those involved, and determine the authenticity of the allegations.
The Bureau has also been directed to submit its findings to the President for further consideration and any necessary action.
