Public Service Disruption Possible as CLOGSAG Sets March 9 Deadline
February 19,2026
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced plans to embark on industrial action, warning of a nationwide strike from March 9, 2026, if government fails to implement an agreed unique salary structure and improved conditions of service for its members.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, February 19, the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) expressed frustration over what it described as prolonged government inaction on commitments dating back to 2019.
According to the NEC, negotiations between CLOGSAG and the government led to the signing of two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), with the agreed measures expected to take effect from January 1, 2025. However, despite several reminders to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the association says there has been no concrete response or implementation.
CLOGSAG stated that civil and local government staff feel neglected and taken for granted due to the delay in honoring the agreements. The NEC therefore resolved to initiate industrial action to press home the demands of its members.
The association cautioned that if the government continues to disregard the signed agreements, its members across the country will withdraw their services effective March 9, 2026.
“Should the government fail to honour its side of the bargain, the constituents of CLOGSAG would embark on a nationwide strike with effect from 9th March 2026,” the statement emphasized.
The looming strike raises concerns about potential disruptions in civil and local government services nationwide if the impasse is not resolved in the coming weeks.
