Akufo-Addo, Prof. Ocquaye Are Liabilities to NPP — Arthur Kennedy

January 27,2026

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a former campaign manager for ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has described the former president and former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye, as liabilities to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing leadership inconsistencies and internal party challenges.

Dr. Kennedy made the remarks during a panel discussion monitored by Vistanewsgh.com on January 27, where he openly criticized the legacy of the Akufo-Addo administration and its impact on the party’s credibility.

According to him, the inconsistencies between Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign promises and his actions while in office, combined with what he termed poor economic management, have left the NPP in a weakened position and provided a bad example for party members to emulate.

He argued that the economic difficulties experienced under the Akufo-Addo government have eroded public trust and made it increasingly difficult for the NPP to convincingly appeal to voters.

Touching on the party’s internal affairs, Dr. Kennedy expressed strong doubts about the usefulness of the ongoing presidential primaries. He stated that the process would not address the core problems facing the party but would instead worsen existing tensions.

Dr. Kennedy further accused party leadership of failing to clean up the national executive structure. Rather than voting out executives he described as ineffective or self-serving and retaining credible ones, he alleged that the party is shielding “greedy elements” within its leadership.

He also claimed that current internal strategies within the NPP are aimed at manipulating the system to favor Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a move he said undermines fairness and internal democracy within the party.

The comments have since generated discussion within political circles, as the NPP grapples with internal reforms and preparations ahead of future elections.
