NDC Aspirants Holding Government Appointments Must Resign Six Months Before Party Elections – Fifi Kwetey

January 29,2026

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has announced that all persons seeking to contest for party office while currently holding government appointments must resign at least six months before the election.

According to him, the directive applies to individuals occupying government positions, with the exception of those serving as board members.

Mr Kwetey made this known during a media briefing held at the NDC headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

He explained that the party is committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in its internal electoral processes, stressing that incumbents with access to state resources could gain undue advantage if allowed to contest without stepping down.

“All persons seeking to contest party office but currently holding government appointment, except board membership, must resign six months to the election,” Mr Kwetey stated.

The General Secretary noted that the move forms part of broader measures being put in place to strengthen discipline, accountability, and integrity within the party ahead of upcoming internal elections.

He urged all aspiring candidates to comply fully with the requirement, adding that the party would enforce the rule strictly to maintain a level playing field.

The NDC is expected to conduct key internal elections in the coming months as it prepares strategically toward future national polls.
