NDC Majority Caucus Calls for Cancellation of Ayawaso East Primaries, Disqualification of Candidates
February 7,2026
The Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has formally called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East Constituency, citing widespread allegations of vote buying and inducement.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and issued from Parliament House in Accra, the Caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated claims of unethical conduct during the just-ended primaries in the Greater Accra constituency. The group strongly condemned the alleged practices, describing them as inconsistent with the party’s commitment to reset Ghana’s politics and uphold democratic values.
Following what it described as extensive deliberations, the Majority Caucus resolved to petition the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC with two key recommendations. First, it called for the annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary with immediate effect. Second, it proposed that any candidate found to have engaged in vote buying or inducement should be disqualified from participating in any subsequent primary organized after the annulment.
The Caucus stressed that the measures are necessary to protect the integrity of the party’s internal electoral processes and restore public confidence in its democratic credentials.
The statement was signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, and was endorsed by Majority Caucus leaders from all sixteen regions, whose signatures were attached to the document.
The NDC Majority Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to ethical politics and pledged to support actions that promote transparency, fairness, and accountability within the party.
