Delegates in the Tema East Constituency have expressed anger and disappointment over what they describe as the mishandling of transportation allowances by coordinators of Dr Bryan Acheampong, one of the flagbearer aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing presidential primaries.
In a video circulating on social media from a polling centre in the constituency, a group of visibly frustrated delegates accused some coordinators working for Dr Acheampong of allegedly withholding money meant to cover their transportation to the polling station.
The delegates, who openly mentioned Dr Acheampong’s name in the video, also identified a woman they claimed had refused to release the funds despite repeated requests. According to them, the money had already been made available but was not distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
“They have collected our transport money and refused to give it to us,” one delegate was heard saying in the video, while others voiced similar complaints.
Angered by the situation, the delegates vowed to vote against Dr Acheampong in protest, stating that the actions of his coordinators had directly influenced their decision.
“Because of how his people have treated us, we will not vote for him,” another delegate declared.
The incident has sparked conversations among party supporters, with some calling on campaign teams to exercise transparency and fairness in dealing with delegates, especially during critical internal elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Dr Bryan Acheampong and his campaign team had not officially responded to the allegations.
The New Patriotic Party is currently conducting its presidential primaries nationwide, with over 211,000 delegates voting to elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into the December 7, 2028 general election.
