15 Eastern Region NPP MPs Endorse Bawumia for 2028 Flagbearership

September 24, 2025

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s quest to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections has received a major boost after 15 of the party’s 23 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Eastern Region openly declared their support for him.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, September 24, during the first day of Dr. Bawumia’s two-day campaign tour of the region.

Speaking on behalf of the MPs, the Achiase lawmaker, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, said Dr. Bawumia possessed the right blend of experience, vision, and broad appeal to secure victory for the NPP.

“We are declaring our support because we are clear in our minds that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead us to victory in the 2028 elections,” he stated.

The MPs described the former Vice President as the most “marketable” option, citing his record in office and his ability to unite people across divides.

They stressed that his humility, effectiveness, and inclusiveness made him the kind of leader Ghanaians desired. “We need a leader who unites and not one who divides,” they added.

On policy, the legislators argued that many of Dr. Bawumia’s initiatives, which were initially met with scepticism, were now proving impactful. They warned that overlooking him as flagbearer would be a setback for the party.

“After all the propaganda held against the NPP in 2024, it is becoming clear, day by day, that Bawumia was right in many of the things he proposed. Now more Ghanaians are warming to these ideas, and changing him will be setting ourselves back by another 16 years,” they cautioned.

The MPs pledged to work tirelessly to deliver victory for Dr. Bawumia in the Eastern Region and beyond.

Dr. Bawumia faces competition from other party stalwarts, including Kwabena Agyepong, Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
