President Mahama Leads Ghana Delegation to 80th UN General Assembly in New York

President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to head Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which officially opens on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
According to a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama will deliver Ghana’s address to the world body on Thursday, September 25. His itinerary features a full slate of diplomatic and economic engagements, reflecting Ghana’s growing international profile.
As the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, the president will host two high-level side events focused on strengthening Africa’s financial architecture. He will also hold bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, several heads of state, and global leaders including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.
Business and investment are key stops on the trip: Mahama will engage with the U.S.-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic visit to the NASDAQ stock exchange, where he is scheduled to ring the closing bell.
First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama is accompanying the delegation and will deliver a keynote address at the World Vision International Prayer Service for Children and speak at an Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) event.
The high-level team includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Ghana Investment Promotion Centre CEO Simon Madjie.
President Mahama and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025.
