Ghanaians Face Possible Fuel Hike Amid Rising International Prices

February 2,2026

Fuel consumers in Ghana may soon face higher pump prices, as fresh industry projections suggest increases in petrol, diesel, and LPG in the upcoming pricing window.

The expected adjustments are being attributed to the weakening of the Ghana cedi and a rise in global crude oil and petroleum product prices, which could bring an end to the steady reductions recorded throughout January.

Should the projected changes take effect, it would represent the first fuel price increase in 2026 after a month of consistent declines at the pumps.

According to projections from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), petrol prices could rise by about 2.10%, diesel by 5.10%, and LPG by 1.09%. Industry players explain that these possible hikes are largely driven by higher international market prices and the depreciation of the local currency.

Already within the current pricing window, petrol has climbed by 2.12% on the international market, diesel by 6.73%, and LPG by 3.66%. This upward trend follows a significant jump in crude oil prices, which moved from $62.50 per barrel to $67.40 per barrel in early February.

Meanwhile, the cedi has also lost some value, slipping from GHS10.90 to GHS10.98 against the US dollar, reflecting a depreciation of about 0.77%.

If implemented, petrol is expected to sell at around GHS11.48 per litre, while diesel likely to experience the sharpest increase could rise to approximately GHS12.77 per litre. LPG is also forecast to go up to about GHS13.50 per kilogram.

The potential fuel price increase could have wider implications for transport fares and the overall cost of living in the weeks ahead.
