High Court Allows Prosecution to Proceed in Gifty Oware-Mensah Case

April 16,2026

An Accra High Court has ruled in favour of the prosecution in the ongoing trial of former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority, Gifty Oware-Mensah, allowing the case to move forward.

The prosecution had earlier begun presenting its key witness on January 20, 2026, as part of efforts to build its case. However, proceedings were temporarily stalled after the defence filed multiple applications seeking to suspend the trial.

The defence has argued that the court should pause proceedings to allow them to challenge a directive requiring the accused to disclose the names and addresses of her witnesses, in accordance with Part 2(3a) of the Practice Direction.

When the case resumed on April 15, the presiding judge dismissed another application to halt the trial, paving the way for the prosecution to continue presenting its evidence.

The court has adjourned the matter to May 11, 2026, when proceedings are expected to resume.

The ruling marks a significant development in the case, as it clears procedural obstacles and allows the trial to progress.
