NIA Begins Ghana Card Distribution for Children Aged 6-14

October 6, 2025

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially launched the distribution of Ghana Cards to children between the ages of 6 and 14, marking a significant milestone in the country's national identification system.

The exercise, which commenced today, Monday, October 6, 2025, will initially cover 56 districts across the nation, with cards being issued to children who have already completed their registration process.

Collection Process and Requirements

According to the NIA, the Ghana Cards will be distributed at the same schools where children originally registered. However, the Authority has established strict collection protocols to ensure security and proper verification.

Each child must be physically present during collection and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents or guardians are required to present the registration receipt, known as Form A, which was issued on the day of registration.

"The physical presence of both the child and their parent or guardian is mandatory," the NIA emphasized in its announcement. "This measure is to ensure the security and integrity of the identification process."

Backlog Cleared, More Districts to Follow

The NIA has assured the public that all backlogs of unprinted Ghana Cards have been successfully cleared, paving the way for the smooth distribution of cards to registered children.

The Authority indicated that while the current phase covers 56 districts, the remaining districts will be included in subsequent phases in the coming days. Further announcements regarding the schedule for additional districts will be made soon.

New Registration Dates on the Horizon

For parents whose children have not yet registered, the NIA promised that new registration dates for children within the 6-14 age bracket will be announced shortly. This will provide another opportunity for eligible children who missed the initial registration exercise to obtain their national identification cards.

Appeal for Cooperation

The NIA has called on all parents and guardians to fully cooperate with officials during the card issuance exercise to ensure efficiency and smooth operations across all distribution centers.

The expansion of the Ghana Card system to include children represents a crucial step in building a comprehensive national identification database that covers all age groups. The Ghana Card serves as the primary identification document for citizens and is increasingly required for accessing various government services and facilities.

Parents and guardians with questions about the collection process or their child's registration status are encouraged to contact the NIA through its official channels or visit their nearest NIA office for assistance.
