Ga Mantse Discharged from UGMC After Surviving Oti Region Accident
February 22,2026.
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has been discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a road accident earlier this week.
The monarch was released shortly after a visit by President John Dramani Mahama at the hospital, where he had been undergoing medical observation and assessments.
According to officials from the Office of the Ga Mantse, the King was involved in a serious motor accident on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while returning to Accra from what was described as an urgent mission. The incident occurred along the Pai-Katanga stretch of the Oti highway in the Oti Region.
The Ga Mantse had travelled to the Northern Region on a private visit at the invitation of the Ya Naa, aimed at strengthening traditional ties between the Ga and Dagbon kingdoms.
In a statement signed by the Chief of Protocol and Communications, Amb. (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, the palace confirmed that although the accident was severe, there were no fatalities. The King and members of his entourage received immediate assistance from officers of the Ghana Police Service and royal staff at the scene before being airlifted to Accra for specialised medical care.
Medical experts at UGMC conducted extensive clinical evaluations and subsequently gave the monarch a clean bill of health, paving the way for his discharge.
His Royal Majesty has expressed profound gratitude to emergency responders, the medical team at UGMC, and the general public for their prayers and well-wishes during the period of recovery.
The King’s discharge brings relief to the Ga State and the Ga Traditional Council, as preparations begin for his first public appearance since the accident.
