The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has issued a public warning to businesses and the general public following reports that some individuals are falsely presenting themselves as officials of the Authority.
In a public notice dated January 26, 2026, the EPA disclosed that these impostors have been visiting business premises under the guise of conducting official duties, a practice the Authority describes as fraudulent and damaging to its integrity.
The EPA emphasized that its field officers engaged in compliance, enforcement, or monitoring activities will never visit any facility without proper identification. To help the public distinguish genuine officers from fraudsters, the Authority outlined key credentials that all EPA officials on official duty must possess.
According to the notice, legitimate EPA officers operate with:
Valid EPA staff identification cards
Official letters of introduction clearly stating their affiliation with the Authority
Branded EPA vehicles
Branded EPA reflective vests
The Authority has strongly advised the public not to grant access, make payments, or share information with anyone who fails to present these official credentials. Companies and institutions are also urged to verify the identity of any individual claiming to represent the EPA before engaging with them.
Members of the public who are in doubt are encouraged to contact the EPA for verification via 0506694760, 0507227726, or 0244533268, or by email at client.relations@epa.gov.gh. Additional information can be accessed through the Authority’s official website.
The notice was issued by the Management of the Environmental Protection Authority as part of efforts to protect the public and safeguard the credibility of the institution.
