What You Need to Know About the NDC 2026 Internal Elections

 Branch Level Elections (Early 2026 – As per National Calendar)

Positions contested include: Chairman, Secretary, Organizer, Treasurer, Communication Officer, Women & Youth Organizers, plus two others.

Key requirements:

  • Must be 18 years and above, a registered NDC member, active in the last one (1) year, and fully paid-up.

  • Voting is by show of hands or consensus (no proxy voting).

  • Filing fee: GHS 20.

  • Elections supervised by Constituency and Regional representatives.

Branch elections are conducted after register verification and before Ward elections in 2026.


Branch Committees (Post-Elections) (Within 1 Month After Branch Elections – 2026)

Each Branch must appoint three (3) members each to:

  • Research Committee

  • Disciplinary Committee

  • Electoral Committee

Important notes:

  • Committee members serve four (4) years (2026–2030).

  • Members of the Electoral Committee cannot contest elections.

  • Appointments require Constituency Executive approval.


Membership Register Verification (March 2026)

  • Only members listed in the Green Book and Authorized Exercise Books as at January 2026 qualify to vote.

  • Photocopied registers issued: by 10 March 2026

  • Verification period: 12 – 26 March 2026

  • Submission to Constituency: by 30 March 2026

  • Deceased and defected members must be clearly marked.

  • Registers must be authenticated by Branch and Constituency Executives.


Ward Level Elections (After Branch Elections – 2026)

  • Ward Coordinators are elected; other officers are appointed.

  • Only Branch Executives within the Ward vote.

  • Voting is by show of hands, no proxy voting.

  • Winners serve four (4) years, coterminous with Constituency Executives.

Constituency Conferences (Mid-2026 – Guided by National Calendar)

Main functions:

  • Review party activities

  • Elect Constituency Executives

  • Propose resolutions to the National Congress

Key points:

  • Voting by secret ballot

  • Filing fees range from GHS 500 – GHS 5,000

  • Female candidates and PWDs pay 50% of filing fees

  • Aspirants must be fully paid-up members from January 2021 – December 2024

  • Must be held before Regional Conferences.


Regional Conferences (At Least 2 Weeks Before National Congress – Late 2026)

  • Held after at least two-thirds (2/3) of constituencies complete their conferences.

  • Voting by secret ballot (proxy voting allowed under strict rules).

  • Filing fees range from GHS 10,000 – GHS 50,000.

  • Female candidates and PWDs pay half fees.


National Congress (December 2026)

  • The highest decision-making body of the Party.

  • Elects National Executive Officers including Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, General Secretary, Organizers, and others.

  • Nominations open in October 2026.

  • Voting by secret ballot, supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

  • Filing fees range from GHS 10,000 – GHS 100,000.

  • Strict rules on campaigning, endorsements, and conduct apply.


General Rules & Discipline (Throughout 2026 Process)

  • Aspirants holding government appointments must resign at least six (6) months before filing nominations.

  • No mudslinging, insults, billboards, or uncivil campaigning.

  • Breaches of party rules attract disciplinary action.

  • Clear appeal procedures exist at Branch, Constituency, Regional, and National levels.
