Six individuals have picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East ahead of the March 3 by-election.
Those who have picked forms include Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Baba Jamal, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria; Dr. Yakubu Azindow; and Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament. The others are Najib Mohammed Sani and Salam Daru.
The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko Computer, confirmed the development in an interview with Citi News, noting that nominations closed with six aspirants expressing interest in the race.
According to him, Hajia Amina Adam was the final aspirant to pick nomination forms, adding that the contest is shaping up to be keenly contested.
“The filing of nomination forms will take place on Tuesday, January 27. We are waiting to see how many aspirants will submit their completed forms,” he stated.
Aspirants who submit their forms will undergo vetting on Wednesday, January 28.
The primary is being held to select a parliamentary candidate to replace Mahama Naser Toure, the Ayawaso East Member of Parliament who passed away on January 4 after a short illness.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has scheduled Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election following the death of the sitting MP.
