Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, has explained that his decision to run for the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat is based on a strong desire to serve his community, rather than personal or material benefits.
The former Deputy Minister and ex-Member of Parliament filed his nomination papers at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Office, confirming that the party received and approved his documents.
“I have officially submitted my papers to the regional office. They have reviewed and accepted everything and returned my copy to me,” Baba Jamal told journalists.
His choice to leave a significant diplomatic position to return to Ghanaian politics has sparked discussions among the public, with some questioning why he would step down from a prominent overseas role.
Addressing these concerns, Baba Jamal emphasized that his move is motivated by a commitment to public service and humanitarian values.
“My motivation is not materialistic. It is driven by humanism and service to the people. I am coming back to serve my community,” he said.
Although he appreciates the opportunity to represent Ghana as High Commissioner, he believes his presence will be more valuable in Ayawaso East and within the national political scene at this time.
“While I am serving the nation abroad, I feel there is a greater responsibility for me here at home. My presence will be more beneficial to my people and the country,” he added.
