Former Deputy Minister of Information, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Results from the polls indicate that Baba Jamal secured 431 votes, beating four other contenders to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the 2026 general elections.
His closest challenger, Amina Adam, polled 399 votes, while Mohammed Ramne placed third with 88 votes. Dr. Yakubu Azindow obtained 45 votes, and Najib Mohammed Sani garnered one vote.
The keenly contested primaries attracted significant attention, given Ayawaso East’s status as one of the NDC’s strategic constituencies in the Greater Accra Region.
The outcome sets the stage for Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed to lead the NDC’s campaign in the constituency as the party seeks to strengthen its parliamentary presence in the upcoming elections.
However, the primaries have also been overshadowed by allegations of inducement and vote-buying, prompting the party’s national leadership to set up a committee to investigate the claims.
Despite the controversies, party officials have urged supporters to remain calm and united as the NDC prepares for the next phase of the electoral process.
