GFA sacks Otto Addo ahead of 2026 World Cup

March 31,2026

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect, less than 100 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision, announced early Tuesday, follows Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, the team’s fourth consecutive loss. The GFA said a new technical direction would be communicated in due course.

Addo’s dismissal comes amid mounting pressure after a series of poor results, including a 5-1 defeat to Austria. Despite leading Ghana to an unbeaten World Cup qualification campaign, his overall record and failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations drew criticism.

Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in the World Cup group stage, with a new coach expected to be appointed soon.
